Interview de Noodles en Italie

We met Noodles on the backstage of the I-day Festival, he seemed relaxed as always with his always present cigarette (“yeah…you know) He wants to be interviewed outside no matter the weather outside but we obviously agree!
He realizes we are the same we were in Milan and ask us if he’s right and a little surprised we smile and tell him he’s not wrong and that we’re the same who gave them the official t-shirt of the site (I (Gabo) wore it for the occasion to make him remember our community).
After a patriotic giving of the Sardinian flag from me and some autographs, where comes out the wedding invitation of Chantal and Manu (Noodles ‘ comment “Great invitation!” already signed by Pete (who seemed really a nice guy to us!) we start with the questions

Offspring.it: Is there an Offspring song that you like but is underrated by your fans and a song that you don't think is so cool but the fans seem to love?
Noodles - There’s definitely songs that I think, you know, haven’t got too noticed, ah… I like Amazed a lot you know… Trust in you from the new record, and even Half-Truism I don’t think… there’s a lot of hardcore Offspring fans that like it but some of the more pop music Offspring fans don’t really like Trust in you or Half-Truism, so you know, there’s a lot of songs… Special Delivery is such a fun song to play live, I don’t know if it’s such a great song to listen to but when we used to play that one live, we really went over really well, but nobody knows that song so yeah..

Offspring.it – Something like Lightning rod
Noodles – Yeah, you know, Dirty magic of Ignition I think it’s a great song and… whenever we play it live it’s just… it kills the audience so you know, I don’t think a lot of people know it

Offspring.it – Dexter some years ago talked about a new version of Dirty magic….
Noodles - Possibly.. oh shit!

...It started raining cats and dogs! We had to move inside and we lost the moment about Dirty Magic, we’ll have to wait...

Offspring.it – It seems like every time you have to play at the I-Day it has to rain!
Noodles – Yeah yeah, is that one festival here that we did the Dvd…rain (Video of All I Want , called Euro rain Festival on the Huck it Dvd -Lord_Gabo)

Offspring.it – Did you notice difference in the gigs you used to play in the 90’s and the ones you play now?
Noodles – Yeah, it used to be a lot more hardcore, punk rock type of audience, and it’s a lot more pop popular crowd now, but in terms of energy I don’t think it’s going down we still see great fans that come out and we love to play just as much today as we did back then

Offspring.it – Maybe now there are a lot of people with cell phones…
Noodles – Yeah there uesed to be lighters and now cellphones

Offspring.it – And they make photos and videos, they lose the moment of the show
Noodles – You know like…the next morning after the show you go on youtube and there can be some videos, it’s kinda cool I mean but I hate the crappy…crappy…production, crappy camera

Offspring.it – Are there some news for the show today on the setlist or it’s always the same? Somebody talked about a new song...
Noodles – You know we’re only out for a month and we’ve been working really hard on the record but there’s still (rain grows…and he says Wow that’s rad! Awesome!)... we’re only out for a month, we do have some songs we’re changing from night to night.. In Paris we changed 4 songs I think from night to night (3 btw)

Offspring.it – Somebody talked about a new song...
Noodles – Yes there’s a new song that we actually played last year, I don’t think it’s gonna be called November song, but that’s what we came out as working title, it’s a little bit different version of it yeah, we changed and made it more Offspring, not the intro so much, well a little bit the intro there’s that riff that goes through it, also the vocals too are a little different

Offspring.it – I prefer the last one
Noodles – The new one? Ok, you listened to it on the internet? I think it definitely sounds a little more Offspring

Offspring.it - Yes.. .. what do you think about todays music market? which bands or songs do you like? Do you still think there is a big competition between yourselves and Green day these things seems to be lost now.
Noodles – Yeah, you know, it was really frustrating I think for both of us and Green Day in the 90’. There was never really any rivalry, I think there was some competition felt between both bands, but I wouldn’t call it rivalry, we’re big fans of those guys, they’re a great band…we were different enough and I think people realize that now that there’s no rivalry, I think there probably always gonna be an healthy dose of competition... we wanted our shows and our records to outdo theirs but it hasn’t happened (smiles).We’re big fans of Green Day, and they’re nice guys, I’ve done things with Billy Joe, we did a punkvoter thing back ehm…when was that…in 2006 I think…2008 maybe, could’ve been 2006…no 2008..fuck I don’t know what the year is know (general laughs!!!)

Offspring.it - Lately there has been a trend for the 'Superband' in which people from various groups play together. For example Mick Jagger with Superheavy. If you were to join a superband who would you call (besides us!). And which genre would you chose to play?
Noodles – Oh man well…I want it to be fast melodic punk rock so..this is just for me personally, I can’t speak for Greg, Dexter or Pete..I think I’d want Milo (Aukerman nd_LG) From the Descentents, I just always loved his singing, I thought he was great, I think I’d want Stan Lee from the Dickies on guitar and... shit there’s so many people!.. and I also want, Jello to be in it, Jello Biafra and also Jack (Grisham nd_LG) from Tsol and Ron (Emory nd_LG) from Tsol..

Offspring.it – A ten people band
Noodles – Yeah seriously it would be (Smiles) and Keith Richards too (laughs)…there’s too many musicians I’d love…..oh and Lady Gaga as back up vocal!! I actually like Lady Gaga to be honest for some of her stuff, I think she reminds me of a cross between like…I don’t know…like Cristina Aguilera and Merilin Manson… you know she’s freakin’ nuts and she’s not afraid to show that in her music and the stage..I gotta appreciate her for that.

Offspring.it - When do you think the new album will come out?
Noodles – We’re shooting for really next year… and we should have it done by the end of this year you know, and then really next year we’ll start moving on working on the artwork and all that…

Offspring.it – Can we expect anything different such as a new instrument you have never played?
Noodles – Uhm… not… not too much, I think there’s some piano on some stuff but it’s mostly all guitar you know, that’s what we do… I know we’ve had some piano in there, we messed around with some keyboards, but usually that stuff is not the main part of the song, just a little spice in the song

Offspring.it - Do you ever have fall outs with members of the band? Has there ever been a brawl like in Oasis?
Noodles – No there’s never been any brawl no, never physically, we argue a lot about the setlist, usually it comes out to Dexter and Greg, and they usually get together and pick up the setlist, I’m happy to play anything..I’ll throw in my 2 cents but that’s the only argument and it’s actually been pretty easy this tour. Last tour, last year we were playing a cover of the Clash song and Greg didn’t like to play it (laughs) He likes the song he just didn’t think it went over well with our audience. I think it went over well with our older fans maybe not so much with the new fans so… he didn’t have as much fun playing it so we were all….but you know that’s what we do, we’re like brothers, we really are like brothers and best friends so you have your moments but yeah..

Offspring.it – future dates in Italy?
Noodles – Yeah next year we’ll be back and we’ll do a number of the dates in Italy, hopefully all the cities we hit before and maybe some new one

Offspring.it – What are you going to do after the show, stay here?
Noodles –No, I think we drive over night to somewhere in France, I’m not shure where we’re headed, we go overnight tonight, you know, last night we were in Vienna and we drove 12h here stayed on the bus drinking beer. You know beautiful countryside, I was up in the morning as the sun was coming out, we were driving boarder from Austria to Italy through the Dolomites I guess...just fucking beautiful you know, it always makes me wanna stop the bus and go out for a hike…just get out…drunk at six o clock in the morning, but seriously beautiful country!

Voilà mes prémonitions concernant les Offs :

Octobre et novembre : fin de l'enregistrement de l'album.
Décembre : vacances.
Janvier à mai : travail sur l'artwork, signature des contrats d'édition et de distribution, préparation de la promo, glandage à gogo, concours de tacos, anniversaire de Greg K et Noodles à Taco Bell, photos promos, mise en place de la tournée, retour des blagues sur twitter, deux songs en exclu sur le net.
Juin : sortie de l'album, concert spécial au Trabendo + plateau télé au Japon.
Juillet et août : tournée des festivals d'été.
Septembre à septembre 2013 : repos.

Très franchement, vu ce que notre cher Noodles dit, je pense que ton planning tient la route. Je suis un peu moins pessimiste, je pense que l'album sera là entre fin Mars et début Juin avec un premier single officiel fin janvier début février. Ah et je pense que d'ici fin décembre on aura une version plus pro (voir version album) de Time Like These / You'll Find A Way / November Song.

En tous cas si y a un concert au Trab' et que c'est gérable vis à vie de mon stage, cette fois je viens !

Totalement pas crédible, si Dexter meurt, ils vont même sortir les démos de Pass Me By ou d'autres conneries oubliées :p

Tin Pass Me By il s l'a sortent quand. Merde à la fin.
